These are texts used in women’s
liturgies.
We have tried to trace the owners and obtain their permission

O Sustainer and giver of life, free your people from the temptations of power, from the urge to control rather than enable.
All: Spirit, liberate us from the forces of domination
O Loving Empowerer, help us to challenge abuse of authority wherever it is to be found, including in ourselves.
All: Come Spirit, give us strength not to walk by on the other side
O Still Small Voice, help the People of God to learn to listen to each other, and for those in authority to understand the strength that comes from true consultation
All: Come Spirit of Understanding, deepen our insights
O Loving Creator, help us to affirm ourselves and others, understanding that we are all uniquely created and have a voice that needs to be heard.
All: Come, Creator of Diversity and help us see the value of difference
O God who made both women and men in your image, help your church not to deface its image by treating women as inferior beings. Help us to recognise and challenge discrimination based on sex, race, sexual orientation, clericalism and other excuses for exclusion
All: Come Spirit of Equality and imbue us with the values of inter-connectedness with all created nature, human and non-human.
All: O Loving God, lead us in your ways and breathe courage in your people so we may truly reflect in our lives the loving mutuality of the Trinity.
Reader I (Reading from the Heart of Flesh by Joan Chittister)
What the world needs are more circles and fewer pyramids. Circles are
strange and wonderful things. No one knows where a circle either begins or
ends. No one can tell what is its most accomplished part. There is no up to go
to in a circle, no steps to climb to arrive there, no top to get to, no
crowning point upon which to plant a flag or stake a claim or build a throne...
Iadders and pyramids assume a society of serfs, of peasants, of lackeys and
underlings, of in-group and out-groups, of higher and lower classes. Circles on
the other hand, assume a society of equals. It isn’t that circles are
disorderly or chaotic; its just that they depend more on consensus than they do
on control.."
We
are wayfarers, following roads
to the ends of the earth,
pilgrims on
our way to the end of the age.
