Self Test to probe your priestly vocation

Self Test to probe your priestly vocation

These are just some questions to reflect on. Notice how they apply equally to women and to men.

  1. Do you feel God tugging at you at times? Do you consider your personal relationship with God as an important and vital part of life?
  2. Does your relationship with God sustain you, enliven you, invigorate you in such a way that you want to share the Good News with others?
  3. Do you dare to talk to others about your faith and experience of God in your life?
  4. Are you thinking of how you could make an everlasting difference in people’s lives?
  5. Do you find your voluntary ministry in the parish more life-giving and energising than your work or your study?
  6. Do you long for "MORE"? To give more or be more?
  7. Do you feel you would be willing to make sacrifices for the service of God's people?
  8. Do you enjoy healthy and positive relationships with men and women?
  9. Do you possess a good physical, mental, and emotional health?
  10. Do you have a sense of humour?
  11. Do you catch yourself imagining what it would mean to be a priest?
  12. Have you experienced encouragement from others to consider the priesthood?
  13. Do you hide theological/spiritual literature under your bed or away in your cupboard?
  14. Do you have a sneaking suspicion that you are on the brink of a major life decision?
  15. Are you making excuses to yourself for not pursuing a vocation to priesthood?
  16. Are you afraid to tell friends and family that you are thinking about a priestly vocation?

There are four traditional signs by which we can judge whether our vocation to the priesthood is genuine or not.

We hope that you have found this document helpful. It costs our small charity on average £10 / $20 / Euro15 to make such a document freely available to you. This is because we have to identify the best scholarship available, retrieve texts, obtain permissions, scan, edit, link and convert documents to html format and run a small office base to make this all possible. We can do this only because we are run almost entirely by volunteers. Please help us build our online library of resources so that more people can access the debate and make up their own minds about women priests. Having benefited from the online library, any donation, small or large, that you can make to support our work would be gratefully appreciated. Click here to learn how to make a donation now.
