The Annunciation

Figure 22.

The Annunciation, Fra Angelico, c. 1432-3.

The orange wings of the angel, whose tips alight in the Garden of Eden at the moment of Adam and Eve’s expulsion, fragment the focus of the picture. The eye cannot rest with either Mary or Adam and Even, but, alternating between them, finally acknowledges their relationship through the angel.
